I’ve been seeing the term what is a prenup quite often, especially in legal and financial discussions. Can someone explain what a prenup actually is, how it works, and whether it’s necessary before marriage?

A prenup (prenuptial agreement) is a legal contract signed before marriage outlining how assets, debts, and finances will be divided if the marriage ends.

A prenup (prenuptial agreement) is a legal contract made before marriage that outlines how assets, debts, and finances will be divided if the couple divorces or separates.

A prenuptial agreement also abbreviated as a prenup is a premarital contract. It provides the distribution of assets, debts and finances in case of a divorce or separation of the couple. Prenups are useful in safeguarding personal property, defining financial obligations and minimizing disputes during termination of a relationship.

A prenup is basically a legal agreement a couple signs before marriage that decides how money, assets, or debts would be handled if things don’t work out later. It’s not a must for everyone, but it can really help avoid messy conflicts down the line, especially if there’s significant money or property involved.
